Year 5
Welcome to Year 5!
A warm welcome to Year 5 from myself, the class teacher Mr. Tilstone, and from our wonderful Teaching Assistant, Mrs. Wagstaff. Our Year 5 class is a vibrant classroom full of enthusiastic group of learners who approach each day with curiosity, creativity and determination. Pupils take part in a wide range of exciting subjects, including English, where they develop their reading, writing and speaking skills, and maths, where they build confidence in problem-solving, reasoning and number work. In science, they explore fascinating topics through practical investigations in our school’s STEM lab. Our Theme topics throughout the Year include Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece, Coal Mining in Nottinghamshire and Human Impact on the Natural World. Creativity is encouraged through art, design technology and music (each week we have a lesson from a specialist Music teacher, the brilliant Mr. Stanton), and pupils also enjoy staying active and developing teamwork skills in PE with the amazing Mr. Brookes. Through computing, PSHE and RE, Year 5 pupils continue to grow as thoughtful, responsible and independent learners, always striving to achieve their very best.
At the heart of everything we do is The Wynndale Way. We encourage all children to:
Be Ready – prepared to learn, listen and try their best
Be Kind – caring, helpful and thoughtful towards others
Be Respectful – valuing everyone, our school and our learning
Be Safe – making good choices and keeping themselves and others safe
